Kortny Feller poses for one of her senior pictures taken by Raelynn Ramsey.

Sitting in the green grass as it dances with the wind.

Looking through the forest of trees to see the bright sun shining on a big, blue lake.

Standing on a rock in the middle of a clear river as it rushes over the edge of a cliff and into a pond.

Crouching in the brown and orange leaves that have fallen from branches.

A field of hundreds of flowers that bring out the color of the posers eyes.

The perfect senior photo has been taken.

As a younger sibling, I’ve watched my older siblings take their senior pictures in the most beautiful places. I talked to a few photographers that enjoy finding these perfect spots and taking seniors and their families there.

Former PHS student Matt Brown enjoys photography and, as a hobby, has a flair for capturing images for families.

“I really enjoy using the natural Wyoming landscapes in my photos, so the Big Horns and Beartooths are great for that,” Brown said. “I like places like Newton Lake in the fall because you can get a lot of fall colors, which make senior pictures look really good.”

Wyoming has many locations that are perfect for senior portraits.

“My favorite places to take photos are the Big Horn and Beartooth Mountains, Red Lodge, the Shoshone River, Newton Lake and any old buildings around Cody and Powell,” Brown said.

The best locations are the undiscovered or abandoned areas.

“It would have to be places where you wouldn’t really expect – alleys, rundown buildings, overgrown areas,” junior Raelynn Ramsey said. “Usually there aren’t a lot of people there, and there is always something unique about it.”

Places with water in the background tend to be popular spots for taking senior pictures.

“One I did with someone was at the Buffalo Bill Dam,” junior Jozi Simpson said. “There were all the rocks, and the water was so clear.”

Along with the scenery, photographers enjoy watching the result of their pictures.

“I enjoy taking senior photos because it is a big milestone in everyone’s lives,” Brown said. “I love seeing how excited the seniors and their parents get when they see the final photos.”
