Alpine Ski team an unknown opportunity to Powell students
The Cody Alpine ski team started practice Nov. 20. So why should Powell High School students care if the sport isn’t actually offered here?
Fact is, PHS students can participate in alpine skiing; they just represent Cody instead. Here’s how it works:
Monday through Wednesday are on-ground practices and when Sleeping Giant opens Thursdays and Fridays are on-snow. The first ski meet is Jan. 12.
If you don’t think you can convince yourself to drive to Cody and back every day in order to practice, you can do on-ground practice at your home and only drive to Cody on Thursday and Friday for on snow practice.
The coaches are Mr. Rick Stonehouse and Mr. Taylor Henson. Mr. Stonehouse can be contacted at 307-250-5499 and Mr. Henson at 406-491-4319.
This is a great opportunity for students who are interested in Skiing since Powell lacks a ski team. The interest for skiing is strong in Powell, our ski bus is almost always full.
“When I skied on an alpine ski team I enjoyed my experience,” sophomore Bryce Hogen said. “It is a more competitive sport than most people think.”
