As the year comes to an end, many listeners waited for Spotify to release their “Spotify Wrapped”. The popular music app has reached its tenth year of providing music summaries.
Spotify collects listener activity from the beginning of each year; from January 1st to October 31st. Every year people anxiously await the drop. Excited to see what podcasts, artists, minutes listening, and top list of artists they listened to. Some listeners are lucky and will get a special video message from their top artist for being a top fan. Some even get a 0.5% or 1% top listening bracket for their #1 artist.
“My number one artist was Lil Uzi Vert,” sophomore Braxton Batt said. “I was a top one percent fan and had played many minutes of his music.”
Many popular albums were released this year along with Spotify releasing its wrapped. Some albums included Tyler the Creator dropping Chromakopia, Lil Uzi Vert dropping Eternal Atake 2, and Billie Eilish dropping Hit Me Hard and Soft. One of the top albums this year was The Tortuered Poets Department by Taylor Swift.
“I was really happy with how my Spotify Wrapped turned out this year, it was mostly the same as last year but there were some differences,” junior David Yates said. “My top artist was Tyler the Creator. I also really enjoyed his new album.”
Besides pop and rap music, another popular genre that showed up on this year’s wraps was country. Famous artists like Zach Bryan, Morgan Wallen, and Luke Combs. But other than those more popular artists, there were more country/folk singers such as Noah Kahan.
“I absolutely love Noah Kahan because his music is great for late-night drives, and studying, and is also fantastic when you’re having a rough day,” junior Kumora Snell said. “His music has definitely gotten me through some rough times.”
Music is a crucial aspect in many people’s lives. It can help hype you up, make you sad, or happy, or even calm you down. Music can help give a sense of belonging. Listening to music also helps create a connection whether it be with the artist they’re listening to or if it is a memory they have.
Spotify has been a very successful place to stream music. Although there are many other apps, none can top Spotify. You can listen and choose from six million podcasts and also listen to 100 million songs.
“My number one on my Spotify Wrapped this year was my sleeping podcast,” junior Patricia Christensen said. “It was the highest because I would listen to it all night long.”
With the year ending, Spotify released its wrap. Many were excited and shared their lists with one another. As the new year comes soon, many are counting down the days until they get their new 2025 Spotify wrapped.
