Over the weekend both Powell and Clark had overwhelming amounts of snow, making it hard to get to school and back home on the weekdays.
Many of those who got stuck had to call others to be rescued. Some people found themselves stuck for hours waiting for help.
Freshman Kobee Cozzens and his family got stuck in the mountains while camping over the weekend, and it took a whole day for them to be rescued.
“Me and my dad had gotten stuck on Sunday for about six hours heading home from being out in the mountains,” Cozzens said. “We had to call my friend’s dad to help get us unstuck by pushing snow out of the way as we tried to drive, so it took another couple hours just to get home.”
Thankfully Cozzens did get home safely with his family on Monday. School had to be closed for a snow day because of all the unexpected snow, so he got to rest after being stranded in the mountains.
But on Tuesday, the Clark bus heading to the first stop of the day got stuck in some deep snow and was unable to get out after multiple attempts. After twenty minutes of trying, they put out the call for help, but ended up waiting hours for help to arrive.
“We got stuck for just over three hours in the deep snow,” Clark bus driver Janelle Loying said. “I had to call other buses and the transport director who had to get us a mechanic to help us get unstuck. The mechanic Steve had to pull and dig us out of the snow, which took about thirty minutes.”
Stuck at its first stop, the bus was unable to get anymore students due to being confined in snow, so Clark had to get another snow day for not having a bus to get people to and from school.
Some students had better luck like sophomore Kaprina Haney who, on the way to school, got stuck with her brothers Patrick and Jonathan. The siblings got free and managed to get to school on time.
“Me and my brothers got stuck on Tuesday heading on the way to school,” Haney said. “But after trying to drive out of the snow for the third or fourth time, we managed to get out.”
A handful of students had gotten stuck just this week in the deep snow from both Powell and Clark, and many others are going to get stuck in the following weeks if more snow starts to fall.
