Every year something changes or is updated around the school. This school year, big changes have happened in the classroom breakouts. The art students have been working on three big projects at once, making our school look fascinating.
Many students from different art classes have been participating in the large projects, making sure they’re getting completed within the time frame.
“We are working on three different projects this year,” art teacher James Gillman said. “Two are going in the F-22 room at the moment, and then one is going to go down in the commons, then we’re building a new Panther mech robot to go above the commons area.”
With so much going on around the school, art students and regular students alike are excited for the changes.
“I’m pretty stoked about the new panther,“ senior Cecilia Villalobos, a non-art student, said. “At first, I didn’t know what happened to the first one, but after I found out they were going to replace the taxidermy with a new mech-panther? Friggen awesome.“

Finding out the old panther was being replaced made many students curious about what exactly was happening. After the information spread, many students became very excited at the idea.
“Yeah, I hope to have the body of the panther up by the end of May,” Mr. Gilman said. “I really thought we were going to get it up last week, but we keep kind of coming up with new things that we want to add for details. It’s one of those things where we do one thing and you see it, and … that inspires you to do something else.”
Many students are excited to see the new panther statue, and the anticipation for it is high – even walking by the art classroom to get a look shows how impressive the project is turning out. The panther has taken a lot of time and effort, and the people who have worked on it are very proud of their progress.
“I really like how the claws turned out,” junior Brooke Brown, a vocational arts student, said. “I think it’s a cool design. I worked on a lot of different things involving the panther, but the claws I liked. The panther is so huge, I just hope we can even get it out of the door.”
One interesting thing about the panther is its intricate details. It’s made out of many different materials, showcasing the skills and creativity of the art kids. Everyone can agree that it’s very detailed (and large), and everyone just hopes that they can get it out of the classroom to showcase.
“I wish I could’ve switched around more to work on all the different things,” Brown said. “I’m excited to see the final result of everything and to be done with it all, though.”
With so many different things being worked on at once, many people switched from project to project to help out.
Overall, the art group has had big goals for this year. With the hard work of everyone, every big goal has been or will be accomplished by the end of May. For many years to come, the various art kids will continue to make our school all the more fascinating and colorful.
