If it feels like school keeps dragging on and on, you’re not the only one. This year, PHS doesn’t get out of school until the 30th of May, and next year, there’s a looming possibility that school will get out on the 7th of June.
With the end of the year approaching, students are getting restless and ready for summer. Many have strong feelings about next year’s diabolical schedule and wish that they could enjoy more of the few warm days here in Wyoming.
“[It] kind of sucks,” freshman Daniel Easum said. “I want to be out of school so I can just screw around.”
Despite the feelings of despair Easum is experiencing, some students don’t mind as much, feeling like this schedule allows them to enjoy more of their summer break in August with good weather.
“I think that it’s fine because we started later and we have had long breaks,” sophomore Sebastian Keefer said. “I think it’ll be the same no matter what. Same amount of days, but just different breaks and stuff.”
Feelings on breaks are mixed. While some students prefer more breaks throughout the school year, a lot of students have the preference of a longer summer break.
“All the other breaks kind of sucked,” Easum said. “Winter break was cold, no one wanted to hang and everyone was gone. Spring break was just kind of boring. And then all the mini breaks, no need for those. Summer is where it’s at.”
What all students agree on is the issue of getting out in June. While it allows for more summer break in August, many students feel as though it’s not a good idea.
“I think that’s pushing it a little bit,” junior Audrey Johnson said. “I like this year’s schedule. I think getting out on the 30th is good because it’s right at the end… but June is a little much, because then you’re having to come back for two weeks after Memorial Day. Then we’d probably end up starting in September. The following years… you’re just pushing further and further back, that’s probably not a good idea.”
Students overall enjoyed this year’s schedule and hope that the school board will continue to maintain the current school schedule.
