Powell High School freshman and sophomores earned a reward day on May 8 for their hard work and dedication to WYTOPP, Wyoming’s state testing. Having many options some students chose to stay at the school.
“I went outside … just kind of laying around,” sophomore Taylor Iverson said. “It hasn’t been that warm, and it was just nice to be in the sun.”
While some students who stayed at the school were outside enjoying the nice weather, other students were also inside engaging in games with their friends.
“I stayed at the school and played cards with my friend,” sophomore LeeAnne Phillips said. “I did enjoy staying at school, I think that even though it wasn’t more outgoing, it was very relaxing, after all the testing.”
While staying at school, some of the underclassmen decided to go to Northwest College, to the new rock climbing course installed this year.
“I went rock climbing, it went pretty well; it was a fun time,” freshman Henry Tillitson said. “They’re adding a high ropes course pretty soon, which is going to be exciting.”
Some people went to the Northwest college to go scale the new rock wall, but others took a different route and decided to have fun in a different setting and go bowling.
“I went bowling, I talked to my friends ahead of time, and we had all decided to go bowling,” sophomore Memphis Solberg said. “I won the game against all my friends, I had the highest score.”
If students didn’t find bowling and rock climbing appealing, going to see the new movie “Thunderbolts”, a very relaxing way to spend the day.
“I went to the movies, the new Marvel movie – I like Marvel,” freshman Kobee Coezzens said. “Eating was the best part of the activity.”
Indoor activities weren’t the only option. Another option was going fly fishing and being outdoors the whole time, having a great time.
“I went fishing – for the most part it was enjoyable,” sophomore Derrick Tucker said. “We didn’t catch anything, and we didn’t really go to the spot I would assume we were going to.”
All of these different activities were a nice reprieve from the hard work and time put into WYTOPP. A consensus among students is that the WYTOPP reward was a well-deserved reward after state testing.
“The WYTOPP takes a long time,” Solberg said. “And it’s pretty draining on energy.”
