PICTURE DAY PANIC!

Picture day is on the most random day, and students are rarely prepared for it.

Oh, picture day. The day that most, if not all, students who attend Powell High School dread. It is meant to be a day where all students try to look their best for a picture that will be in the yearbook for everyone to look at. For many, it is a very easy-going day. For others, it’s the opposite.

It doesn’t necessarily help that most students don’t know it is picture day until the day of, which is not good if you want to look fabulous for the yearbook.

“As a junior who just had my last picture day, it is a slightly bittersweet feeling,” junior Rowan Borcher said. “Picture day used to be one of my favorites. In some cases, though, it might be nice to have a little more warning because some kids might need haircuts to be scheduled, and stuff takes time.”

Despite what Borcher has to say about picture day, other students feel the opposite. It seems that most students forget about picture day or aren’t reminded of it. This year, picture day came as a surprise to many students, like Gavin Johnson.

“I didn’t even get a paper [an order form] for the pictures,” senior Gavin Johnson said. “I was not prepared whatsoever. I feel like a heads-up would have been nice.”

It is a very well-known tradition for upperclassmen to have a strong dislike for lowerclassmen. It is still around when it comes to picture day. Some students, like Kamryn Schuler, believe that upperclassmen should be able to go first for picture day.

“I think that it is so unfair that freshmen go first,” junior Kamryn Schuler said. “I wouldn’t mind if we went first because by the time I go, my hair gets messed up.”

How long does it take you to get ready for picture day? For most students, it doesn’t take long. They just wake up, get dressed, and head to school. Picture day isn’t that big of a deal for these students.

“Usually I’m more prepared for picture day,” junior Charlotte Heffington said. “But for this year, it just caught me by surprise. I just woke up, and what I was wearing is what I wore for the pictures.”

Although many students at PHS have very strong feelings about picture day, it is still an important day. It’s a flash and a click which captures our growth and tons of memories. Furthermore, it’s a reminder to live in the moment. So even though it’s just a day for many, it reminds us to always cherish even the smallest things.
