TWISTED TALES

Theatre Department sponsors haunted house

Halloween is a time of scares, spooks and all that jazz. A classic tradition for Halloween night is to go to the local haunted house.

There you can find creepy props, jump scares and best of all, nightmares coming to life. This year, Powell High School’s Theatre Department is redefining childhoods by twisting fairy tales.

This year’s theme is Twisted Tales. With all the twisted corners, mortifying characters and screams in the background, this year, it is expected to change your perspective on the classic bedtime stories you grew up with.

“It was scary,” junior Abigail Cubbage said. “Like it’s not even done.”

Haunted houses are walked through in anticipation of being scared. It is expected for screams to come from across the building and not know where they came from. Every year, the haunted house is one of the best memories that people throughout the community remember from their childhoods. Not only is it a fond memory for those walking through the haunted house, but it is fun for the actors as well.

“Well I really like construction,” senior Madyson Riedinger said. “But I also really like being able to act in it. That’s really fun.”

Not only does the haunted house provide many fun memories, it is a great way to build a work ethic and learn to work with others. It takes a lot of commitment to stick with building the set for the haunted house and acting with other people within your room.

“I think that the haunted house is a good chance for people to interact with each other,” senior Braden Schiller said. “And to have teamwork in a good community program.”

Each night is different. The reactions are never the same with those who walk through. You could have a group of teenagers terrified at every movement made and the next group could be adults who are expecting every jump scare and remark.

“I think it would be really fun to see people laughing after they get scared,” Cubbage said. “Rather than pure terror because we are not murdering people.”

Even though when walking through the haunted house, and terror is crawling under your skin, the Theatre Department wants you to have fun with the haunted house and be safe this Halloween.
