Very few things start to captivate people as much as one thing can: Florida Man. While Florida may have become an official state in 1845, the memes on Florida Man became popularized in the early twenty-first century in 2013.

Ever since the conception of the internet icon, stories about the acclaimed Florida Man have not stopped rolling in. After so many years in the spotlight, the meme accolade has gathered a cult-like following.

“Florida Man is my hero,” senior Scout Sullivan said. “He’s a guiding light to what everyone should aim themselves to be.”

On the other hand, while many people know and take account of Florida Man’s existence, some still have not heard of the southern phenomenon.

I would be happy to discuss my thoughts on Florida Man, if I actually knew what, or who, Florida Man is,” Superintendent Jay Curtis said. “Sorry, but I have never heard of him!”

Stories on Florida Man have ranged from humorously funny to outright insanity at times.

One recent story in Florida Man history saw someone encase himself in a hamster-like ball and attempt to float across the entirety of the Atlantic Ocean.

The man, Reza “Ray” Baluchi, had also taken part in the dangerous activity before, this being the fourth time he has attempted this stunt since attempting in 2014, 2016, and 2021.

This time around, Baluchi threatened to not only stab himself, but also threatened police officers at the scene that he had a bomb.

With the abundance of Florida Man incidents over the years, people have found out that by entering any given date into a search engine, results of Florida Man events will come up.

For example, by entering “Florida Man April 17” into Google, results of a man encasing himself in a block of concrete outside of the governor’s mansion will appear.

Other crimes such as a man telling a playground of children where babies come from [May 21], someone sitting on a gun and shooting themself [June 30], and a man chewing a police car seat [January 11] are all among other various crimes you can find on the internet.

“One of my favorite Florida Man moments happened on my birthday, October 10,” California native Sky Upender said. “When a Florida Man forced a small alligator to drink beer.”

The searches have become a fun pastime for some, with senior Jeremy Harms finding one from his birthdate where a “naked florida man stood in a fire and chanted ‘gibberish.’ Mushrooms did it, cops say” from the Miami Herald.

“That sums me up a little bit,” Harms said. “[That’s] something I might do in the future.”
