Shakespeare’s in the Schools performs for PHS students and staff

On Wednesday, October 26, the whole school got to watch Shakespeare’s “As You Like It,” performed by Montana Shakespeare in the Schools.

Montana Shakespeare in the Schools travels all over Wyoming and Montana putting on hundreds of Shakespeare productions for thousands of students. Many of the actors travel across the country just to perform for the class.

After the play, the actors and even some of the backstage crew put on workshops throughout the day for students who would like to learn more about Shakespeare and what it takes to be a true thespian. In Powell High School, numerous students participated in these workshops.

“I didn’t intend on doing any of the workshops, but a friend wanted me to, so I decided to try it,” freshman Michelle Hedges said. “It was out of my comfort zone, but I had a lot of fun and got to try something new.”

For some students the workshops are a chance to try something new or get out of their comfort zone. For others,  it may be just for the fun of it or even to add to prior knowledge they have of drama.

“Being in drama, I thought taking the workshops would help increase my experience and I thought maybe I’d get to meet new people,” sophomore Norah Startin said. “I had lots of fun and I would definitely do it again.”

Shakespeare in the Schools offers so much for PHS students whether it’s the workshops, the play itself, or even the chance to talk to the actors during lunch.
