After a long successful season, the PHS Girls Soccer team headed into state fueled up and ready to play.

The team came into the tournament with a victory over Worland. This gave many of the Lady Panthers a boost of confidence to begin their journey at state.

“Going into state we were confident and excited to play,” sophomore and Two-Time All-State Recipient Coy Erickson said. “The first game was a moment in history and that game overall went well.”

By overcoming Worland in their first game at state, the Lady Panthers were in for an exciting tournament.

“At state, I think we all had a good attitude about the games to come,” junior Saige Kidd said. “We were prepared and overall just had a positive outlook even if we were nervous.”

From their first victory, the team took a step back and focused on their bond.

“Everything went well,” sophomore Ivy Agee said. “We went to a steakhouse for dinner and had team dinners following each night after our games.”

The next game the Lady Panthers faced off for was against the Cody Fillies soccer team. This was a tough game mentally, for they have split regular season games with the team. The team would have to go in with the best mindset.

Unfortunately, the Lady Panthers were defeated in a gut-wrenching shootout.

“The second game was to determine us going to the championship or not,” Erickson said. “We really wanted things to go [well] but things ended up not going our way and we lost in a shootout.”

The Panthers then had to face off the number one seed, Douglas, in order to place third. Although the circumstances were not ideal the team was determined to head away from state with hardware. So they did, for the first time ever, the Lady Panthers soccer team placed at state.

The team is now excited for next year. They have many plans and preparations in order to be great in the future seasons.

“We’ll have summer open fields,” Agee said. “This is just to kick the ball around and hope everyone will try to develop on their own as well during the off time.”
