Kahoot, Gimkit, and Quizlet are famous go-to games for teachers and students for test preparation and fun. Now the question is which is the favorite? Why? Which is more fun? And which is more useful for studying?
“Gimkit is my favorite game,” junior Kyra Morrow said. “It’s my favorite because it provides a fun way of learning without the wins being luck-based.”
Morrow says that Gimkit is the most fun to play as it is interactive. Gimkit offers different games to choose from such as Snowbrawl, which works exactly like a snowball fight, Snowy Survival, where the goal is to survive as long as possible, One Way Out, where the players are trapped on a spaceship and the goal is to escape, Don’t Look Down, where the goal is to climb as high as possible, and Blastball, which works like a soccer game.
Morrow admits that even though Gimkit is fun and has many options, it’s not the best for practical studying.
“Kahoot is the most useful for studying in class,” Morrow said. “But Quizlet is the most useful for studying independently.”
Some students disagree with Morrow’s opinion on which classroom quiz is the most fun.
“Kahoot is more fun to play because of the different games and trivia-like styles,” sophomore Aubrey Bear said. “You can choose whether to work in teams or alone depending on the game mode. It provides different options for different learning styles.”
Some different games available to choose from on Kahoot are Tallest Tower, where teams work to grow their tower taller than the opposing team, Submarine Squad, where the goal as a class is to answer questions fast enough to escape the submerged tunnel, and Robot Run, where the goal is to complete minigames the fastest to escape the evil robot. Unlike some students who prefer Kahoot for the games, other students prefer Kahoot for the music.
“I like Kahoot the most because it combines fun quizzes and studying,” sophomore David Stensing said. “I also think it’s very effective because the music can be associated with the questions and the music is very catchy, which can make it easier to remember the questions and answers.”
Although some students disagree on which one is the most fun, most agree that Quizlet is the best for individual practice as it has different modes for studying, including Match, where you match the term to its definition, Test, where questions can be answered such as true or false, multiple choice, and write in, and Flash Cards, which work by having the term or definition on one side, and vice versa. “I believe Quizlet is the most useful for studying,” Stensing said. “It focuses more on the information and helps you memorize it which can be effective.”
