RESOLVE … TO CHANGE … NOTHING?
Some say “why bother?” when it comes to New Year’s resolutions
Now that 2018 has arrived, so have those resolutions. Well let’s be honest: we’ve all made or thought of making resolutions for the upcoming year and have failed at following them.
Whether it is to stop procrastinating or losing weight, most don’t reach their goal and quit by the time February comes around.
So maybe this upcoming year make resolutions you can keep like the following:
- One of the most popular New Year’s resolution is self-improvement, which is an unbelievably unrealistic standard. Not only is it hard but it isn’t something that can be planned out and people like step by step instructions to achieve their goals. Honestly to become a better person you need encouragement and if results aren’t evident soon people tend to get discouraged and give up, so instead make it a goal to stay just the way you are and be loud and proud about it.
- Another resolution people tend to set is to save money. Life is expensive, and saving money is hard. So limiting yourself to things and indulging after a long day or week or even a couple of months is what most people look for. Instead of saving money next year try to use the money to take a weekend off or go out and buy something you’ve wanted. Then hide the fact that you are completely broke and can’t pay for any lunch or gas.
- As the years go by and people get older, they tend to look back and realize they need to take more risks and do things they have never done like skydiving or even getting a tattoo. Instead this year do absolutely nothing exciting and risky. Maybe sticking to a routine or habit can give life a better flow. Stay home watch some Netflix, eat some pizza and binge watch all the hit new shows.
- People also like to learn something new every year. It can be a new language or even a sport, but this year try to avoid learning new things. Everyday people are expected to learn something new and quite frankly it’s exhausting. We spend months at a time at school learning new things and when the New Year comes we have to wait until summer vacation to forget all we learned and a head start to that seems like a good idea.
- Another resolution people like to have is to appreciate their time with their family. Honestly family is overrated. Yes they made you the way you are and yes you love them. But, remember all those times you all got together for thanksgiving, for birthdays, other many holidays and everybody decided to criticize your every move? Well then stay away from them. Just stay locked in your room and only go out for necessities like food, water and the occasional bathroom breaks.
New Year’s resolutions are usually for people who have something on their minds they’ve wanted to change but have not put any effort into actually changing. A holiday should not change that, instead at the end of the year look back and try to look for achievements you’ve had and look for any resolution worthy things you had already done.
