SKIING VS. SNOWBOARDING
Some say traditional is better than ‘knuckle-dragging’
Two fighters in an arena of white battling to prove that the other is inferior. The battle scars left on their weapons induce rage and hatred. In this clash between humans, the weapons are sharp leaving gashes anywhere they glide and the weapon you chose decides your position in the onslaught.
The battle I speak of is the rivalry between skier and snowboarder.
This is an age-old dispute and frankly there is an easy solution… do what you want to do.
According to the National Ski Areas Association, “Snowboarding participation fell 4.5 percent during the last five years, while skiing grew 6.7 percent.”
Face it: snowboarding is dying, and skiing is coming back… but that doesn’t mean you can’t do it.
According to www.theguardian.com, ”Anyone who has done it will tell you that learning to snowboard is a long and bruising process at first.”
Snowboarding provides the rider with a uphill battle to begin and takes time to be able to conquer the black diamonds. Snowboarders deserve our respect for getting off the ground 30 times in their first hour of learning.
Additionally, .denverpost.com report, “Ski industry insiders attribute the drop in part to ski manufacturers taking some pointers from snowboard makers.”
Old skis were long and skinny. This made them harder to maneuver quickly and to use in powder. New skis with hard cut edges make it easier to turn.Modern skis have dual ending tips, wider designs and a rocker design in order to make them more manageable and usable in powder. All of these features evolved from the snowboard’s design.
Meanwhile, according to www.theguardian.com, “In your comfy soft boots you can saunter past the clumping skiers, snowboard nonchalantly tucked under one arm. But on the mountain, a snowboard is not the best-thought-out method of getting around.”
Snowboarding boots are significantly more comfortable than ski boots and you only have to carry a board. Skis are faster on the snow but if you want to have swagger when walking snowboarding is for you.
According to www.denverpost.com, ‘“Definitely, skiing has benefited from snowboarding,” said John Agnew, owner of Boarding Haus.
Snowboarding has helped with the evolution of the ski industry in order to develop better skis. These ideas and concepts will only become more advanced and will develop to create great equipment for all.
