This season has become a milestone for the PHS boys’ swimming and diving team. Having state within the month, many have already qualified.

At the swimming conference held in Kemmerer this year, the boys placed second to Lander with an overall score of 238.

The Panthers have been working to qualify more athletes for state, which will be in Laramie Feb. 15-16.

At conference, a new record was set for the pool and the overall conference competition by senior Kacey Creed in 100-meter breaststroke.

“I’m really glad I got it my senior year for the conference record because it might stay up there for a while,” Creed said. “It feels like a big accomplishment, it was awesome.”

And now the Panthers’ attention turns to the state meet.

“We are practicing more on technique,” Creed said. “We are trying to get everybody ready and see if we can get more qualifiers for state.”

Aside from qualify many athletes, the Panthers achieved another milestone by beating Lander in a dual meet.

“They haven’t been beaten in 22 years straight, so that means we have a chance at conference and state to beat them,” Creed said.

Other than conquering Lander, the PHS swimming and diving team saw more bright spots during the season.

“A highlight is getting more of our team qualified for state; that’s pretty exciting, and getting more people, I guess more people than Lander has qualified for state, so we will have more depth than they will,” Creed said.
