It was a very exciting weekend Feb. 16-17 in the world of Powell High School athletics.

The boys and girls basketball teams traveled to Riverton and Lander to begin their second round of conference games, the Panther swim team traveled to Laramie to compete in the state competition, and the Panther wrestling team traveled to Lyman for their regional competition.

 

The Lady Panther basketball team had a very important weekend ahead of them going into the second round of conference games against the Lander Lady Tigers and the Riverton Lady Wolverines.

The Lady Panthers defeated the Lander Lady Tigers 55-45 and then went on to defeat the Riverton Lady Wolverines the next day f 50-47.

The Lady Panthers went into the weekend’s games 3-0 in conference play and with a 12-5 overall record. The Lady Panthers came out of the weekend with a 5-0 conference record and number one seed going into the regional tournament, which will be Feb. 22-24 in Pinedale.

Also, The Lady Panthers’ win against the Lander Lady Tigers was Coach Mackenzie’s 100th win while coaching girls’ basketball at Powell high school.

 

The Panther basketball team also had an important weekend ahead of them going into the second round of conference games against the Lander Tigers and the Riverton Wolverines.

The Panthers came up short by one point against the Lander Tigers on Friday losing their first game of the weekend 58-57. The next day, the Panthers defeated the previously ranked number one Riverton Wolverines with a score of 50-47.

The Panthers went into the weekend with a conference record of 0-3 and an overall record of 5-11, they came out of the weekend with a conference record of 1-4, and an overall record of 6-12.

 

The Panther swim team headed to their state meet in Laramie  to compete for the state championship once more.

Senior diver Hudson Wilkerson placed first in the diving competition with a score of 438.55.

Senior Kaycee Creed placed second in both of his individual events, the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke.

Creed also was awarded the sportsmanship award for the state meet.

The Panther swimmers ended up taking third overall.

The Panther wrestling team traveled to their regional meet over the weekend to decide who goes to state to compete for a state title.

Junior Reece Karst, Sophomore Brody Karhu and junior Brandon Thompson all took first place in their weight classes.

Eighteen Panther wrestlers overall placed top eight in their weight classes. This earned the Panthers a spot at the state meet the next week.
