Community members enjoy the steak dinner at the fairgrounds on March 17.

Every year the community comes together to eat, dance and give. The Powell-Shoshone FFA Parent Support Groups hold an annual dinner dance auction to raise money to help support the FFA chapter.

This year’s event was held Saturday March 17 at the fairgrounds.

“Overall it was a great time; it was nice to see past, present and future FFA members in one room raising money for the parent support group and just having a good time,” former chapter president Teo Faulkner said. “The community is such a great supporter in everything the FFA does so it was nice to see everyone out for a great time.”

The ticket for a steak dinner along with a breadstick, baked potato, salad and brownie was $25. This meal alone brought in a lot of money for the FFA chapter. While eating dinner community members enjoyed the company of the people around them. There was also a silent auction going on with all sorts of goods.

After the dinner and silent auction there was a live auction of 67 items. These items are donated my the members and area businesses. This year one of the most popular items was an English collie puppy donated by the Smith family. The entire event raised several thousand dollars, which will be used for contest entry fees, travel and scholarships.

The auction lasted for a while so there were five auctioneers to auction off the items. One of these included Powell High Schools’ very own Bronson Smith.

“The auction brings in a good amount of money for our parent support group and it’s really enjoyable to be involved,” said Smith, who is the chapter president. “‘Twas fun.”

Once the auction was concluded the Powell-Shoshone FFA members cleared all of the tables and swept a portion of the floor to use for dancing. Hurricane Mesa played live music for people to dance to.
