The Powell High School cross country teams have been competing all around the state since the beginning of the school year, along with the Lady Panther swimming and diving team.

The Powell boys and girls Cross Country teams have been running since Aug. 31. Their most recent competition was at the Worland Golf course on Sept. 20  where the boys took second place.

Ten girls, a record number for the usually small team, ran the race. With the season running short, many people have set high expectations for themselves.

Senior Dylan McEvoy said he plans to “run at state and to just enjoy my final season.”

Everybody seems to have been enjoying themselves and being on a team together.

“I really like just hanging out with other people on the team; I think that’s fun,” freshman Jace Bohlman said. “But I also like running.”

Powell will host its lone cross country meet of the season Friday, Oct. 5, at the Powell golf  course.

PHS Swimming and Diving has also had a successful season so far. They had their latest meet on Sept. 25, a duel at home against Cody. They beat Cody 105-73.  Along with their many team victories there have also been many athletes to pre-qualify in their events.

In order to have success, there needs to be hard work and someone with a lot of smarts. Coach Bob Smartt has filled those shoes in his second season coaching.

“I feel like coach has brought an entire new aspect to this team,” sophomore Addison Moretti said.

The girls have a close connection to each other as a team.

“I think I’ll mostly miss hanging out with the whole entire team, it’s fun,” senior Caitlyn Miner said,   “I like spending the night with all of them and just getting to know all of them.”

These girls will be going to state for the following events:
