Are the ’80s really making a comeback?

Among popular ’80s fads making a comeback is the popular scrunchie.

It’s time to give in and accept that the ’80s are making a comeback.

However, I think it’s right to say some of the fashion choices people are making can stay in the ’80s.

Sure, the scrunchies can stay (and if I’m being honest, I love the scrunchie, like, a LOT.) and the leggings can stay as well. But come on … perms and mullets? Again? Really? Let go of the mistakes and move on.

In the last couple of years, I have noticed a boom in the amount of scrunchies being bought, leggings being worn and . perms being styled. It seems in the last six months alone, more people are flashing back to the ’80s and styling some of the clothes our parents would have worn at the time, just with our own little twist.

In the ’80s, leg warmers were a huge hit in the fashion world as the was were for “jazzercise.” Our generation has put our own little twist on them, styling them to more of our time and calling them boot socks. These are just leg warmers that are not as colorful, not as thick and are meant to only show over the top of your boots, never even touching your ankle in the process. items like these have proven that our generation has taken the ’80s into consideration, looked at the fashion and said, “Why not? We’re too lazy to come up with our own sense of fashion, so let’s take the idea of our parents and use that.”

Scrunchies. I know it is basic of me to say how much I love scrunchies, but I do, and apparently most other girls in Powell High School do as well. Next time you’re going around the halls, take a look at girls’ wrists and count how many feature scrunchies. Most people wear them for their function, which is to hold back the “do,” as in hairdo. However, I witnessed girls who wear them for the cute designs, almost as a replacement for a bracelet.

Now, let’s get down to the nitty gritty. Guys: The perm and the mullet are not as attractive as you believe it is. It’s an outdated style that most of the population has finally gotten over. However, here in Powell, Wyo., it seems that this fad has not yet passed. I make a motion to have these so-called “hairdos” disappear.

But  I love the ’80s. I love the music, the films and sometimes, the fashion. It was a great era that affects me even to this day. I was raised on all things ’80s, so I may be a little biased.

However, based on what I see every day at school, it seems we are stuck in the ’80s. Sure, it was a great time that made America who we are today, but it’s time we let it go. Like really. Let the ’80s go. It was great for a while, but now, it seems that we are wannabes. And no, I don’t mean the Spice Girls version.
