Spring is in the air. In the FFA world spring time is the busiest time of the year. With multiple contests almost every week until the State Convention in the middle of April members from across the state stay busy. To kick off the crazy season, Sheridan College hosts a contest known as Border Wars.
The Powell-Shoshone FFA chapter sent two different CDE (Career Development Events) teams to compete in Sheridan.
One of these teams was the horse judging team. Team members include: Zoie Gaisford, Aryanna Minemyer, Allyson Visocky and Amber Visocky.
“I thought the quality of horses and horsemanship wasn’t great,” Minemyer said. “Although it was a good experience for myself and the team to get exposed to that type of competition to enhance our reasons and ability to judge.”
The team ended up ninth out of 20 teams.
Along with the horse judging team the ENR (Environmental Natural Resources) team traveled to Sheridan as well. The team consisted of Cole Davis, Zack Griffin, Colton Kremer and Wyatt Murray.
The team placed first out of approximately 20 teams.
“I’m really happy with the way the kids performed in Sheridan,” agronomy coach Mrs. Wendy Smith said. “It makes me really hopeful.”
As the month of March continues these two CDE teams along with the other teams of the Powell-Shoshone FFA chapter will complete in many other contests around the state.
