(ADVISER’S NOTE: This note was transmitted via email and universal all-call at 8 a.m. today — Thursday, April 2, 2020.)
Good morning. This is Mr. Tim Wormald, Principal at Powell High School. I hope this message finds you doing as well as possible in the midst of this COVID-19 pandemic. I want to share a few updates on our plan for teaching and learning beginning next Monday, April. 6
First and foremost, I want to tell you that we miss seeing your kids around here. I’ve been in the building the last few days, and it just doesn’t feel right. I’m holding out hope that we will be able to reconvene school this spring because I want to see our students, especially our seniors, finish the year in the building.
Until that happens, though, our plan is to move teaching and learning to an online format. Canvas will be our primary means of delivering content to students. Teachers will also use video conferencing programs, like Zoom, to hold live sessions with students. Our teachers will also hold virtual office hours throughout the week. Those will be good times for students and parents to reach out to our teachers if they need any assistance.
I encourage you to visit our school website to see our remote learning schedule, which includes teacher office hours and potential video conferencing times. Please visit www.pcsd1.org and click on the schools link to find the Powell High School site. The schedule is available on the PHS home page [as well as on phsprowl.com].
As a reminder, students still have time to submit any and all make-up work to their teachers this week. We have temporarily removed all penalties for late work. The deadline to take advantage of this opportunity is this Friday, April 3. Teachers have been communicating with their students, so students should be working hard at this point to complete that work if they need to do so.
Thank you for your time and your flexibility during this difficult period. If you have any questions about this information, please contact the PHS office at (307) 764-6181. I sure hope to see you and our student in person sooner than later.
Sincerely,
Mr. Wormald

While the Online Learning Schedule it is difficult to adjust initially, I feel like the benefits greatly outweigh the smaller inconveniences of a dynamic schedule and getting used to Zoom. The first benefit is flexibility through having classes spread out throughout the week rather than having all of them everyday. The second benefit of the Online Learning Schedule is communication with teachers and paras most often during office hours via messaging/emailing which is beneficial for help on assignments or clarification if needed.

The online classes have been a little weird to adjust to. Remembering to get to class when not going to school is also odd, but it gets a little easier as it goes on.
