Why Halloween is overrated

Most people are quite fond of Halloween and like to participate in the popular tradition of dressing up like a witch or watching a horror movie that leaves you wide-awake at night.

Over the years, I’ve noticed Halloween isn’t as fun as I thought it was and has left me questioning why others find it so fun. I’ve thought about it and found the 10 reasons why this holiday is overrated:

  1. This Halloween hype starts on Aug. 1, and girls are already lining up for their pumpkin spice lattes by September. They somehow maintain this excitement for three whole months. It’s quite irritating and leaves me confused about all of the unnecessary products they’ve made that are pumpkin spice.
  2. Halloween is also known for the tremendous amount of candy, but you either eat it all within the first few days and become sick or save the candy to the point where it becomes stale.
  3. Plus there’s always that one neighbor who thinks a miniature Tootsie Roll or a carrot is an acceptable candy option.
  4. The serious clown problem that the United States is currently enduring.
  5. Those people who won’t accept the fact they’re too old to go trick-or-treating.
  6. People buy costumes and only wear them once or twice, which is a waste of money.
  7. People pay for others to scare them in haunted houses.
  8. This holiday (like many others) is a hangover waiting to happen
  9. The cheesy Hallmark movies that play over and over again until Christmas ends.
  10. Pumpkin carving is just disgusting and unamusing.

The whole Halloween hype isn’t all it’s cracked up to be and wasn’t as exciting as I thought it was.
