This robot was constructed early in the season built by the team the Mad Hatters 6437 consisting of Alan Merritt, Jenna Merritt, Maddie Horton, Devin Ott, Austin Chandler, Joelynn Petrie, Ethan Petrie and Tristin Willitt.

The Powell High School Robotics team is hosting their first fundraiser, a “Run for the Robots,” on Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 23).

They will use the money raised for traveling to their competitions. The first competition they participate in is on Nov. 17 in Butte, MT.

“We are hoping to have all four teams qualify for state and two or more teams to make it to nationals,” sponsor Mr. Joel Hayano said about his goals for this year’s competitions.

The robotics team has not had their first competition but this year’s team has already made their mark.

“We got a lot done. A moving robot very early in the season,” freshmen Jenna Merritt said about their achievements this year. “From what I’ve seen, we have some pretty successful robots.”

The robotics team has four groups inside of their team. Every member helps each other. If one team needs help with putting their robot together, another group will help them.

“We all help each other; one group has really good programmers, so they help the other groups,” Mr. Hayano said.

The Robotics team is looking forward to all of their upcoming fundraisers: the Turkey Trot, a bake sale at parent-teacher conferences and duck races in the spring and helping with concessions.
