Orion

Orion Lamar is a senior at PHS, but most importantly a bubbly personality – a character full of energy, but overall perceived as a loving human.

Orion is always decked out in bright colors, and interesting yet intriguing clothing, and most importantly, he always makes sure to pack a hat of some sort. Those at PHS who may not exactly know Orion are nonetheless familiar with his sense of style.

While many students know Lamar for his fun personality, he is also very well known amongst the staff at PHS. He has grown a bond with all, if not most, of the administrators in our building.

“I think a lot of the teachers here are really good people,” Lamar said. “They’re super nice, a lot of them are my friend. Mrs. Beavers is really nice, she lets me draw on the sign-in sheet.”

What the average Joe may not know about this unique character, however, is his intense love for music of any sort. Orion can be found with his earbuds in, jamming out to his music, at any given moment of the day; he lives for the music to energize him.

“I just put twenty-two songs on Spotify and Apple Music,” Lamar said. “It is kind of folk rock, but I have a bunch of different genres. Some of them are really grungy, and then some of them are like gospel.”

While music has always been an influential aspect of Orion’s life, even from a young age, music has just recently begun to get big for him. Orion’s musical advances have led him to many places, but most importantly have helped him officially begin hosting gigs of his very own.

“My first show was at this thrift store in Colorado,” Lamar said. “It was called Functional and it was super cool.”

While Orion has begun to spread his wings and plan more shows for the future, he often reminisces about how far he has come. With the help of his inspiring dad, Orion has been able to grow and expand his dreams for his music career.

“I’ve been on SoundCloud rap for a long time,” Lamar said. “I just like to keep it up just cause of like… the memories. People deserve to see my progress even if it is bad.”

While Orion makes his way through high school, he hopes to have a future filled with new kinds of music, music that spreads happiness to himself as well as others.

“I’ve like really thought about [going to] music school,” Lamar said. “I want to do jazz, ’cause that sounds so fun.”

Aside from Orion’s unlimited potential, especially in music, he hopes to influence others at the end of the day. When talking to Orion about impacting others through the form of social media, he had a moving mindset on the topic.

“I have tried to keep all of my social media deleted,” Orion said. “It is really bad for your brain… and it’s like just not good for you with the amount of dopamine it makes you produce.”

While Orion may be an energetic musician with a burning desire to create music, he has one common goal in life.

“I’ve been trying to write success in every single thing,” Lamar said. “Success is the only thing I understand.”
