With a recent influx in rain, dropped percentages in snow have occurred, and a weird fog took over the town of Powell for two days.

“This year has just been kind of odd with the weather,” sophomore Curtis Muecke said. “It’s been cooler in the summer and hotter in the winter, but at the same time, it’s just been the same temperature for all of winter.”

Living in Wyoming, it is expected to like snow and embrace the cold.

“I hate snow,” senior Maddie Johnson said. “Having moved from the east coast in Virginia Beach to Wyoming my freshman year, it was devastating having to leave the beach and snow just adds another level of pain on top of it.”

Feelings of love and hate can be attributed to your surroundings with snow and what it makes you think of.

“I do like snow,” Muecke said. “I feel like it really adds to like the feeling of Christmas because in my opinion, all the Christmases we have had, there has always been snow, and it hasn’t just been ice and cold.”

Some like the cold for the seasonal sports that come along with them.

“I do like the snow,” junior Peyton Borcher said. “Only in the winter because I really like to snowboard and without any snow, I can’t snowboard.”

Some have made connections between the rise in rain to the drop in snow.

“I think we haven’t been getting any snow because we had such an influx of rain this summer,” Borcher said. “I didn’t mind the rain this summer. I just wish it would have been snow in the winter instead.”

The rain has also been a topic of conversation. With a rough 2022-2023 winter, and then a constant downpour of rain in the summer, it is natural for people to complain.

“It was so annoying,” sophomore Addy Powell said. “Like it was a lot of rain. It flooded in town like four times.”

Morning fog got thrown into the crazy mix of weather recently which raised some concerns.

“I have not enjoyed the fog mainly because it’s scary to drive in because the visibility is super low,” Borcher said.

Hopes for a typical Wyoming winter keep rising, but when the time comes for winter to come back, there will still be complaints about the strong Wyoming wind.
