Pop’s concert has always been known as students’ favorite concert in their choir careers; it features a beautiful mix of solos, duets, and many group performances that everyone adores.
On February 25, this year’s Pops Concert took place at the Powell High School’s auditorium and blew people away with the choir’s talents. Choir members cheered in excitement as their friends entered the stage.
“My favorite part has always been the choir’s cheering,” freshman Ruth Bucher said. “I feel like it brings all the choirs together, rather than feeling that this is just another concert. It creates a community, saying that we are here for you and it’s okay if you’re nervous.”
A popular solo for many was junior Levi Hawley’s reenactment of the song “You’ll Be Back” from the musical “Hamilton.”
“It gave off the feeling of Pops,” sophomore Alex Turner said. “It made you feel like you were watching a part from the movie, and it was hilarious.”
Natalie Black performed the song “Still Hurting” from “The Last Five Years” musical. It was the start to all of the solos, and she began it well.
“I had to put a lot of work into [my solo song],” junior Natalie Black said. “It was so hard and out of range but still so fun. I really enjoyed the challenge of the song that wasn’t easy to master.”
The concert started off with the song “Lovely Day” which brought the energy and excitement needed for the concert. Students clapped and danced on stage as they sang their songs after much practice.
“The energy of ‘Lovely day’ was a great way to kick off the connect,” Northwest College’s choir director Eric Hagman said. “Especially when everyone was clapping at the end. There is nothing more rewarding than making music with others.”
