Linton’s Big R has been a significant addition to the town of Powell for the past 58 years, but that is set to change as it has recently been sold to Murdoch’s Ranch and Home Supply.

The store is open currently, but is still undergoing the transition. While Murdoch’s Home and Ranch supplies similar products to Linton’s, some citizens of Powell are skeptical of the transition.

“I think Linton’s was getting kind of tired and unorganized and needed a little bit of help,” said junior Ryley Meyer, an employee at what was Linton’s and now is Murdoch’s. “I was hoping something was going to help it.

“I didn’t really expect that Jim was going to sell Linton’s, but I’m glad they are making some changes and doing some good for the store.”

Some major concerns among the people of Powell contributed to the product changes. Some were worried Murdoch’s wasn’t going to supply firearms and ammunition like Linton’s did.

“They are,” Meyer said. “They were transitioning back and forth whether or not to, and we told them that it would be very wise to carry firearms in this area. We sell so many of them.”

Murdoch’s will continue to supply firearms and ammunition as Linton’s previously did. Meyer continued to explain how the transition would affect the new inventory supplied.

“Some people are thinking that we are getting rid of a lot of stuff, because we are having a lot of big sales,” Meyer said. “But it’s actually just because we are trying to get that brand out and our new Murdoch’s brand in.”

Murdoch’s is also going to be improving the quantities of certain items in the store.

“There’s going to be a few different changes in size of quantity in different areas of the store,” Meyers said. “We are going to have a lot more dog food, cat food and the gun section is going to be extended. It’s going to be two aisles instead of one.”

The brand and suppliers of the inventory will be the major change between the change in stores. Murdoch’s will have a very similar atmosphere and a similar variety of inventory compared to Linton’s. Although the change of stores is unsettling to some, others see it as a fresh start.
