Country Rap or Country Crud

  1. As Powell High School students begin their year again, big trucks and oversized stereos are back. Country always has been the main genre for most, but lately a new style has risen from the depths: country rap. Here’s a top 5 list of why “hick hop” is killing the country name.
  2. Bodily injury. People can be injured rather easily. And they do when country rap is the genre playing. I’ve seen it with my own eyes; people would rather bang their heads on a desk than listen to country rap. The sound of your own head hitting a desk is supposedly louder than rap, by a small margin.
  3. The amount of cringe a human body can feel when you see the rappers: Mainstream rappers have a certain look about them. This style does not call for cowboy boots and a torn denim vest with a flannel underneath. They also seem to be a bit well fed. Ever heard of Heavy D?
  4. Country rap is honestly ruining country music’s name. Country rap is sadly pushing people away by the hundreds when they hear Big Shmo playing. It’s just not the right thing. Certain combination belong together, like syrup and pancakes. But country rap should be avoided like a disease.
  5. Changing a beat doesn’t make a song bearable. Country rap is mostly an off brand background beat with lyrics that rhyme with the last word. Rap songs shouldn’t be recorded when the writer is sitting on a tailgate and feeling a little tipsy. Certain things just don’t work.
  6. Keep it traditional. If you can’t sing about a sick dog, a broken down pickup and failed relationship, don’t sing country. And especially, don’t try country rap.

After reading some of these reasons, even the most avid country rap fan might have second thoughts. Some things should be instantly considered a bad idea as soon as they enter a person’s brain. Like country and rap. As Mr. Preator would say, no bueno.
