PHS Junior Blake Nissen displays her skirt in the cold Wyoming Weather.

As the new year rolls in, so does the snow… and shorts? Yes. The article of clothing worn in warm weather above 70 degrees. But that’s not the case for some PHS students. As the temperature decreases so does the length of some peoples pants. This fashion choice has left students with mixed opinions and questioning if it’s hot or not.

“I feel like in winter, especially in Wyoming, you need to dress appropriately,” junior Anna Bartholomew said. “…shorts are just not appropriate.”

While some may agree with this statement, others believe that wearing shorts in winter is appropriate.

“It’s honestly not even that cold,” senior Keaton Rowton said. “I’m just an alpha male.”

Though there hasn’t been much cold weather, it’s still too cold for shorts season. With the weather averaging a high around 23 degrees Fahrenheit and a low of -4.7 degrees Fahrenheit. Absolutely no way it’s time to wear shorts.

“Shorts season is in summer,” Bartholomew said. “But if you live somewhere other than Wyoming where it’s not cold all the time, then it’s ok.”

Summer is an appropriate time to wear shorts because you’re more likely to get a sunburn than frostbite. Look on the brightside, a sunburn turns to a tan while frostbite doesn’t. But others have different opinions.

“Shorts season is when it’s spring, like the warmer part,” junior Blake Nissen said. “Summers are too hot and I don’t want things touching my legs.”

In disagreement, Rowton added, “It’s always the appropriate time; shorts season never ends.”

Overall, if you’re wearing shorts in negative temperatures, you’re crazy. And if you were to ask me if wearing shorts in the winter is hot or not, I would say cold, aka not. If you plan on wearing them before summer, just don’t, why be cold when you can stay warm.
