Sports fans gather at parties to watch the Superbowl every February.

Sitting down to watch the highly anticipated Super Bowl is a tradition for millions of people. The game is one of the most-viewed sporting events every single year. This year’s match-up is the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals, and not many people anticipated these teams would be the last two standing.

“Coming into this year I didn’t think that the Bengals would be good at all,” freshman Alex Jordan said. “Last year I was not impressed with them, their offense wasn’t very good and the defense was terrible. The team definitely made a big leap.”

For the LA Rams, this will be their second trip to the Super Bowl in the last five years. They have a high-powered offense with an equally strong defense. During last year’s off-season, they added veteran quarterback Matt Stafford as well as adding Odell Beckham Jr. and Von Miller this season. This propelled their team to the next level.

“The offense of the Rams is just going to be too much for the young Bengals team,” sophomore Marshal Lewis said. “The experience that LA has with their coaches and players will play a huge factor in the outcome.”

Even with the game as the main focal point of the day, many different aspects add to the mega event of the Super Bowl. Many families, companies, and friend groups plan parties to watch the game. Many different types of food and snacks are served at these parties, and the debate on what is the best snack has been around almost as long as the game itself.

“My favorite snack is wings; they are just a good food to have when watching a game,” junior Hyrum Jeide said. “When the Super Bowl is on, there is no better food to have than a basket of wings.”

Even with the large amount of not-so-healthy food, some still prefer a healthy snack. One of the most popular things to see on the spread is a fruit and vegetable tray. To some, this might seem silly to waste the plate space but for others, it is the main course.

“I honestly don’t like to eat too much of the heavy [food]; it just makes me feel sick,” Lewis said. “The vegetable tray is just something that you can eat all game and not get stuffed.”

With the Super Bowl less than a week away, it’s time to start planning out the perfect plate of snacks.
