This year’s Met Gala host, Blake Lively, reveals the color change in her dress on the red carpet.

The Met Gala is an annual fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York. The Met is always held on the first Monday of May, aka. “Met Monday.” There, celebrities get to wear funky clothing that will most likely differ from their everyday wear.

“I was disappointed in this year’s Met,” junior Gretel Opps said. “Very few attendees followed the theme.”

This year’s theme was “Gilded Glamor.” The gilded age glamor was considered to be extravagant with jewel toned dresses, silks, velvets etc. But were the looks given that night really gilded or glamor?

“Celebrities were very uneducated on the theme this year,” sophomore Kathryn Brence said. “My favorite was a reporter, Genesis Suero; she executed the theme very well.”

This year’s looks were subpar to say the least, they were either very off theme or wore dresses from around that time. Kim Kardashian chose to stir the pot up and wear the exact Marilyn Monroe “Happy Birthday President” dress.

“I did see that Kim was wearing Marilyn Monroe’s dress,” junior Jordyn Schuler said. “And that was such a disappointment because she should have been the last one to wear that historic dress that she sung to JFK in.”

The dress is currently the most expensive dress, selling at auction for $4.8 million to Ripleys Believe it Or Not, who then very generously let Kim K wear it to the red carpet.

Kim wasn’t the only one in the family to cause some tension. Kylie Jenner’s Off White dress was also pretty questionable. It was a white wedding gown accessorized with a backwards baseball cap and veil.

“My least favorite was Kylie Jenner,” Brence said. “Her outfit didn’t make sense and didn’t follow the theme.”

I completely agree, for being big in the fashion industry, they failed to succeed my expectations. But so did everyone else. Only a few looks really stood out.

“My favorite outfit was Emma Chamberlains,” Opps said. “She followed the theme while still making it her own.”

Emma followed the theme well and kept it to her style. Blake Lively also had an amazing dress. Her dress was made to resemble the statue of liberty going from copper to blue-green.

“I loved Blake Lively’s dress,” Schuler said. “It took me by surprise when it changed colors.”
