Pictured here is the famous egg drop soup.

Many popular soups across the world utilize one very famous ingredient: noodles. More often than not, those noodles are made of flour, wheat, maybe even corn. However, egg drop soup stands out because of its noodles…which are made entirely from eggs.

This famous chinese soup is far more appetizing than it may appear at first; however, it is an amazing dish if you wish to eat a healthy soup that is also filling. One bowl of this soup contains approximately 71 calories, compared to 155.5 calories in one can of Campbell’s chicken noodle soup, which is among the country’s favorite soups.

The best part of egg drop soup is that it takes at most 15 minutes to make, and the ingredients and cooking directions for this soup are listed below:

(recipe from allrecipies.com)

Makes one serving

  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • ¼ teaspoon soy sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoons water (Optional)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (Optional)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 drop yellow food coloring (Optional)
  • ½ teaspoon ground white pepper (Optional)
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt (Optional)
  • 1 teaspoon chopped fresh chives

Directions:

  • Step 1: Combine chicken broth, soy sauce, and sesame oil in a small saucepan over medium heat; bring to a boil.
  • Step 2: Stir water and cornstarch together in a small bowl until cornstarch is dissolved; pour into boiling broth. Stir in food coloring. Slowly pour in beaten egg, stirring constantly; season with white pepper and salt. Serve hot, garnished with fresh chives.

And that’s it. A very simple recipe that takes 15 minutes to make, is healthy and low calorie, and filling. Try it for yourself, you won’t regret it!
