A FORMAL REQUEST

Students Voice Opinions On Homecoming Dance Being Formal or Informal

The beginning of the school year holds many exciting events and opportunities for students. While Homecoming Week approaches, teachers and students alike question whether the Homecoming Dance should be held as formal or informal.

“It [Homecoming] could be less formal because we have a lot more formal dances,” senior Hannah Wood said. “It’s our first dance after the summer so that we can actually all get together and listen to music together.”

The Homecoming Dance is something that many look forward to when school starts. For a short time, many students get to have fun with their friends while the year kicks off. It gives students a chance to loosen up at the beginning of semester.

“Informal is less stressful for everybody,” sophomore Brighton Streeter said.

I don’t think it’s too much; I think it’s a good opportunity for students, especially the new students in our school to know what it is…fun. It gives the chance for us to literally look good, get dressed up, and be extra.

Among the many events that our school organizes, Homecoming Week is definitely one that students talk about constantly before it happens. Some students enjoy the idea of the dance being low-key and a chance to hang out. Others prefer it to be more proper and expect everyone to be on their best behavior.

“I don’t think it’s too much; I think it’s a good opportunity for students, especially the new students in our school to know what it is…fun,” senior Precious Londo said. “It gives the chance for us to literally look good, get dressed up, and be extra.”

Besides looking great, some think that it’s too close to the beginning of the year for people to have the time and money to put together their best outfits. Dances further down the road might be better suited as formal because of their placement.

Since it’s so soon, if it were formal, people might not be able to find a dress or find any fancy clothes they would like to wear. I think it should just be informal; I think it’s just a little dance. I mean, we already have formal, the regular formal, and prom.

“Since it’s so soon, if it were formal, people might not be able to find a dress or find any fancy clothes they would like to wear,” junior Grace Estes said. “I think it should just be informal; I think it’s just a little dance. I mean, we already have formal, the regular formal, and prom.”

On the other hand of the argument, it is said that wearing informal dress would be too close to the school’s casual attire.

“I think informal would just be too boring,” Londo said. “Because it’s just your everyday outfit for school, like you might as well just dance in school.”

No matter what the students have to say, all seem excited for it when asked. Homecoming Week brings a little life into the beginning-of-the-year grind for many students and inspires them to keep going.
