Hattie Pimentel received the January Student of the Month award.

Students are excited to hear when they have received Student of the Month even though many people in the school do not know about the award.

January’s Student of the Month is senior Hattie Pimentel.

“I was excited,” Pimentel said. “Now, I get a free parking space in the front circle, which is nice.”

The Student of the Month must have a 3.2 GPA, be a junior or senior standing and must be in at least one major activity.

“I participate in tennis, robotics and help at the Powell Makerspace,” Pimentel said.

One faculty member said he appreciates what Pimentel does for the robotics team.

“Hattie does a lot of work for her robotics club,” robotics coach Mr. Joel Hayano said. “She helps maintain the engineering notebook, which is a huge task. During competitions she scouts other teams, which is a lot of work, so she has a very high work ethic for her team.”

Pimentel has spent a long time helping out the Makerspace, a technology program that encourages creativity in youth.

“She does a lot of work at the Makerspace, and helps teach classes,” Mr. Hayano said.

Pimentel plans to attend Michigan State University with a computer science major. She earned the STARR Scholarship to MSU.
