Vegas shooting: Response time raises concerns

More stories from Marie Ramier

Several hundred concert-goers of the Route 91 Festival were massacred Oct. 1. Approximately 22,000 people attended the event; however, 58 of those did not make it out.

About 1,000 people have been killed in large massacres since 1966. The government has not voted on anything to prevent further large massacres from happening again.

In the latest incident, Stephen Paddock brought 23 guns into the Mandalay Bay Hotel and many more were in his car, as well as 1,000 pounds of ammunition. The Mandalay Bay Hotel was not able to detect any of this.

Paddock shot at the event for 12 minutes until he shot himself.  The police were at the event for security but it took 75 minutes until they made it into his room. It should not have taken so long to get to the shooter.

Is it common practice that the Mandalay Bay Hotel does not respond to and stop an incident in a room for 75 minutes?

The police noticed quickly that the shots were coming from somewhere in the Mandalay Bay Hotel.  I think the police need to be able to have all access to places before a large event.

There were many police and strangers helping save people from the gunfire, but who was trying to stop the shooter?

Considering a hotel the size of the Mandalay Bay, there must be some security. Somebody must have been paid to handle the safety of the hotel.

Massacres have happened in many places and lawmakers have not done much. Guns should not be banned but nobody needs a fully automatic weapon, except the military.

Paddock made his own automatics by watching a YouTube video. Anyone can make them. When anyone can form a weapon like his, it really does concern the safety of others.

When someone plans a vacation, people never think that they are going to be the ones to be killed. The attendees of the Route 91 Festival went to celebrate country music and many birthdays.

I have heard of massacres occurring anywhere. When you travel on vacation, everyone thinks of a good time but with more massacres, people may soon start to think otherwise.
