Sophomores Maya Landwehr and Joe Bucher prepare dessert for the upcoming dinner theater.

The Culinary Arts and Theatre department are coming together to create a dinner theater for the community. The event will take place as a fundraiser for the two programs and their upcoming plans. Anyone who wishes to attend can buy tickets for dinner and a show.

The production will take place on February 12 and 14. The Saturday production will be held at the downtown commons and Monday’s in the PHS Auditorium. Students in the drama club and members of the culinary arts class will put on the show and serve the food.

“The culinary classes have been working on the food for both nights,” sophomore Scout Sullivan said. “I am personally making fruit tarts and helping out with anything else that needs to be done.”

Saturday will feature desserts such as cookies, brownies and tarts. Monday will be a traditional dinner theater with chicken pot pie. Many PHS students have signed up to serve and perform at both events. The event will showcase a wide variety of student talent.

“I think it helps show a different side of the theater production,” freshman Caitlyn Belmont said. “We’ve never really done something like this.”

With budget cuts affecting elective classes, different events and fundraisers are needed to supply the department’s needs.

“It helps with funding so we can do productions in the future,” senior Dakota Hansen said. “Plays are expensive. We have to costume and design sets, and all of that money has to come from somewhere.”

The drama department hopes to continue its history of grand productions. With the growing number of students, the department is able to expand its previous engagements. The arts are an important part of the school and keeping them going encourages creativity and imagination.

“Theatre is a unique way to express yourself and have fun outside of the regular school day,” Belmont said. “It’s super fun to watch the plays come to life and see how each person works together.”

The event is a great opportunity for the high school to get involved in the community. It gives students a creative outlet and provides funding to the programs.

“I think people should definitely come,” Hansen said. “It’ll be really awesome, and we’ve put a lot of work into the production.”
