With a fresh start to the school year, The Prowl has made a podcast to open up coverage to the hearing scene. Focusing on sports and topics within the school, senior Mitchel Waintscott and senior Julian Frost will be the hosts for this year.
Q: Can you please introduce yourself and the podcast?
Mitchel: I’m Mitchel Waintscott and me and friend Julian… we are gonna lead a podcast called Talk To ‘Em. I don’t know how often we are going to do it, but we will have a main event, like our upcoming [episode] is about UFC 306, and then we will talk about the school a little bit like the policies, sports, and have a fun little ending.
Q: What are your goals for the podcast?
Julian: We just want to have a good time… but we also do like voicing our opinion and telling people the news that’s going on in school, out of school, world news, just anything really, that’s trending or that we find interesting, or think that other people would find interesting.
Mitchel: We are gonna try to grow it pretty big so people are tuning into it every time we make a podcast and we are gonna try to involve the students that maybe don’t get involved in anything.
Q: Do you plan on interviewing anyone from outside of the school like community members?
Julian: We will if we get the opportunity. It’s not just for the school; we don’t really even need to talk about what’s going on in school. Of course, we’re gonna have a sports header and talk about what that week’s fall sports are, but other than that, our other headers are just random stuff that we find interesting. So yeah, we can interview anyone.
Q: What challenges do you think you’ll face?
Mitchel: I think just publishing it to start, I don’t know how far we’ve gotten on that, or maybe not being about to upload it as frequently when sports go on because me and Julian are both in sports and we won’t be there at the same time.
Julian: Well, first challenge was [the] first day of our podcast. One of our mics was off the entire time, and we filmed for 30 minutes, and all the footage was not usable. But other than that, we’re definitely going to make sure that that doesn’t happen again… I don’t think we’ll really have a problem getting interviewers. I’ve already had a ton of people ask me to be on the podcast, before we even aired the first episode.
Q: What are the main topics you think you will cover each time?
Julian: First topic is going to be something that happened over the weekend or recently in the week that me and Mitchel find interesting. It’s usually going to be something that me and Mitchel collectively enjoy. Second topic is always going to be sports, I’m guessing. Third topic is going to be an in school thing, usually. So whatever is going on in school, if there’s people are complaining about something, or there’s something new that’s going on, we’ll talk about that. And then the fourth is just our opinions on something, how we’re feeling, and any other things that we need to cover that we feel like we missed out on.
Q: Do you think your podcast will be more opinion-based?
Mitchel: Yeah, I think it’ll mostly be opinion-based but not every podcast [episode] will be the same.
Julian: I think all the sports and the other people that we’re going to interview are going to be fact-based. But then the last two topics that me and Mitchel are going to go over, usually end of the opinion based or just how things are going.
The first episode of the Talk To ‘Em podcast will be posted the second week of October, here.
