WHY OLDIES ARE THE TRUE GOLDIES

Classic rock is better than today’s music. Here’s why:

From Jimi Hendrix to Nirvana to Fleetwood Mac, I’m all about the rock genre. Psychedelic rock, soft rock, classic rock and everything in between.

But with newer, more computerized music coming out every day, people lose sight of the golden era of music. So today, we will discuss why oldies are goldies.

If your parents are relatively old (no offense), you probably grew up listening to good music. While other kids were listening to Christina Aguilera or Britney Spears, you most likely were  jamming out to The Beatles. At least     I personally was that kid growing up.

Looking back on that, I praise my parents for showing me what good and genuine music is.

  1. One major reason I believe older music is more worth listening to is the lyrics — the meaning of the song and the symbolism behind every stanza.

“Don’t carry the world upon your shoulders, for well you know it’s a fool who plays it cool by making his world a little colder” – Hey Jude, The Beatles.

If you listen deeply to a song with such essence, you can feel the goosebumps creep upon your spine. You can feel the words resonate within your bones. If you don’t get that feeling while listening to music, you probably need to update your playlist.

  1. Another issue I have with today’s music is that much of it is so computerized. What happened to playing actual instruments? Hearing Jimmy Page shred his guitar is honestly 99 percent of the reason I listen to Led Zeppelin. Hearing actual music played by actual musicians is what listening to music is all about.
  2. Not to mention the auto-tune so-called “artists” jam-pack their songs with these days. Obviously auto-tune wasn’t a thing back in the day, but in today’s “music” just about every song is enhanced and honestly quite unrealistic compared with the singer’s actual voice. I want to hear passion, and I want the music to feel intense. I don’t want to hear something my 7-year-old sister can make up just as easily by sitting on our Casio keyboard.
  3. Something else that goes unmentioned is that a good portion of modern artists don’t even write their own songs. Take a look at Rihanna; you may absolutely love her music, but little did you know she puts little to no effort writing her own music. Some of her biggest hits such as “Umbrella” and “S&M” were penned by other people.
  4. Finally, pop music is majorly based on image and money, which are factors musicians could care less about and just another argument that makes older music so authentic. Pop stars show up on stage and “sing” whilst older musicians had to get up on stage and sing, slave over their instruments throughout the entire concert, making sure every chord was correct and their pitch was perfect.

Truth is, you can enjoy any genre of music, but that pop star or that rap artist’s music will get old and so will they, but rock ‘n’ roll will never die.
