Learning to do, doing to learn, earning to live, living to serve.

Students across the nation will come together in the upcoming days to celebrate national FFA Week Feb. 16-23.

The traditional navy blue corduroy jacket is seen as a symbol of unity, faith, honor and pride among the Future Farmers of America. The week that recognizes every blue FFA jacket, from border to border, has always been held from Saturday to Saturday of the week encompassing George Washington’s birthday, Feb. 22.

Agriculture isn’t just a field to go into or a hobby to pursue, it’s a way of life. Although many don’t realize the impact it has on the globe, FFA members do.

“It [agriculture] has impacted my life in so many positive ways,” Powell-Shoshone FFA President and PHS senior McKennah Buck said. “The FFA taught me many life lessons that I will cherish forever. They were my first family outside of my immediate family.”

Of course, there are national theme days, but FFA week wouldn’t be the same if a Powell Panther twist wasn’t put in place. This year’s theme days are as follows:

  • Tuesday: Camo Day
  • Wednesday: ‘Merica Day
  • Thursday: Twin Day
  • Friday: Blue & Gold Day

The chapter encourages not only the FFA members to participate in the dress up days, but all students of Powell High School.

Powell-Shoshone FFA also has various activities open to chapter members during the school week. All members are encouraged to participate.

  • Monday: GreenHand Degree Banquet 6 p.m. at the Park County Fairgrounds
  • Tuesday: Work Auction at 6 p.m. at the Park County Fairgrounds
  • Wednesday: Chore Night at 6 p.m. at the NWC Ag Pavilion.
  • Thursday: Game Night at 6 p.m. in Mr. Bryce Meyer’s room

“Chore night is my favorite night of FFA week,” sophomore member Emma Karhu said. “When everyone gets together, we always have lots of laughs and make good memories. There’s hardly ever a dull moment during FFA Week.”
