Over the years, many foreign exchange students have enrolled at PHS. This year Pedro Teixeira from Säo Paulo, Brazil is part of the Panther community.

He has been given the opportunity to leave his country and enroll in an American school, but specifically, Powell, WY.

“I like the school, people here and [learning] about the culture and I look forward to [learning how to] ski; I’ve never done that before,” Teixeira, a senior, said.

Now representing Brazil at Powell High School, Teixeira has experienced many changes transitioning from warm and sunny Brazil to bipolar Wyoming, including the culture, language and food.

“I love learning about other countries and meeting new people,” Teixeira said. “The most important part is to show the differences [and] being careful not to imply that one country is not better than the other, despite all the differences.”

Although the countries have various differences, Teixeira enjoys the animals, nature, the snow and sports as well as school subjects.

Teixeira was also part of the cross country team and potentially be a part of the swim team.

“The challenges I would say [are] American Government,” said Teixeira, adding he finds it difficult to understand how life here works, but it’s also the funniest part to him.
