Are you an AGvocate? Many people in communities across the country don’t understand the importance of the country’s agriculture industry, so Jan. 21-27 became well known as AGvocacy week.

“AGvocacy Week is an opportunity to recognize members of the agriculture industry and the work that they do,” junior Mckennah Buck said.

Every year there is one specific theme. This year’s theme was UniteAg. The Wyoming state FFA officers and adviser opened up an essay contest and video contest to all Wyoming FFA members.

The contest was to write an essay responding to the question, “How can members of the agricultural industry do a better job uniting to promote their industry?” These essays were meant to capture the spirit of being an advocate for agriculture.

The winner was given $100, donated by Teresa Milner of Dirt Road Wife Photography. The winning essay will also be printed in the Wyoming Livestock Roundup during the week of National Convention next year and receive other recognition at the 2018 Wyoming State FFA Convention.

“Being advocates for Ag is a big deal and not an easy job,” Buck said. “FFA members and industry leaders take on that role every day and AGvocacy Week is a chance to show the work they do.”

The video contest was a chance for your chapter to come together and create a short video on the topic of Uniting Ag. The chapter who created the winning video received a prize of $100 donated by the Wyoming FFA Association. The winning chapter also received a private celebration with the Wyoming state officers to be held sometime in 2018.

The Wyoming Association also gave a chance to everyone to promote Ag through social media.

“This was a very successful way to show communities how much people can come together for something they care about,” junior Alyssa Gould said.
