People flood into the downtown Commons to choose their bowls and get some hot soup.

Empty Bowls took place on Nov. 19 and drew the attention of many people. The first-come, first-served meal was dished up from 5:30-7 p.m. at The Commons at Pond Park in downtown Powell. The volunteers served the simple meal of soup and bread for $10. Visitors were allowed to choose one bowl from over 400 different selections. After everyone who wanted a bowl got one, the rest were auctioned off. The event’s goal to exceed the $5,047 raised in 2017 was successful, and all of the proceeds were donated to Loaves and Fishes.
