Shamrock Shakes are back. Those 800 calories of mouth-watering St. Patrick’s Day deliciousness are waiting for your tastebuds. The famous creamy mint flavored shake has been around since the early 1970s, and it makes its debut each year on Feb 15.

You know what that means, Mint Oreo Shamrock McFlurries are back on the menu too. The flavor of mint ice cream mixed with Oreo pieces are truly “mint” to be. For many, the classic drink is a family tradition they can’t go without.

“Shamrock Shakes are my absolute favorite drink to get me in the St. Patty’s mood,” sophomore Allison Morrison said. “People who dislike Shamrock Shakes must be crazy… who doesn’t like a creamy mint flavored shake.”

However, some students prefer the newly added McFlurry take on this festive drink.

Year round shakes should totally be a thing because I have to drink so many during this time of year.

“Shakes aren’t really my thing,” sophomore Blake Nissen said. “I like McFlurries more because it’s so much more minty and has a lot more ice cream compared to the shake version.”

Nissen isn’t alone in her opinion.

“Shamrock shakes are pretty good; they have a sweet and a little sour taste to them,” senior Zekeal Frankenberry said. “I prefer the McFlurry version more than the regular version.”

By popular demand, McDonalds is debating whether to keep this tasty drink year round. Although, having the shamrock treats year round would be very unlikely, for some it would be a dream come true.

“Year round shakes should totally be a thing because I have to drink so many during this time of year; if they would happen to make these shakes year round, I could drink one whenever I wanted,” Morrison said.

Both minty treats are a must have to get into the St. Patrick’s Day spirit. Whether they stay year round or not, they will be back again for the next shamrock season.
