Ashtyn Heny, a high achieving student athlete at PHS, was the recipient of the December Student of the Month award.

Heny is a varsity basketball and volleyball player, and she is a part of the National Honor Society. She performs equally well, if not better, in the classroom, with a 4.0 cumulative GPA. Heny has many things on her plate; thus it’s not easy to balance her busy schedule.

“In order to stay on top of things, and keep things in order, I keep a planner to remind myself of upcoming events, tests and assignments,” Heny, a senior, said. “I like to keep my grades up to ensure I don’t miss any sports games or scholarship opportunities.”

Heny is not only a stellar student, she is also a successful athlete. Her main focus is basketball. She has always been prosperous when in a Powell Panther jersey. Many people say that athletics build character; Heny doesn’t fall short of that.

“Basketball is my favorite sport,” Heny said. “It has been in my family for years, and I’ve been playing basketball since third grade.”

People rarely, if ever, have anything bad to say about Heny. She has been nominated for Student of the Month by numerous teachers.

At least one of her mentors says Heny does an excellent job representing Powell High School in the classroom and on the court.

“She is very hardworking, humble and passionate about the game,” said Lady Panther Head Basketball Coach Mr. Scott McKenzie. “I’ve coached Ashtyn since she was in fourth grade. She has been very successful since the beginning.”
