Everyone awaits the glorious season of fall. With the arrival of crunchy leaves, warm sweaters and the growing fondness for pumpkin spice merchandise. Here are the top 10 reasons fall is the best season.

  1. The incredibly satisfying feeling of stepping on the leaves littering the ground. Walking through the grass and hearing every step make a crunch sound.
  2. Time to bring out the warmest sweatshirts, the comfiest pants and the coziest boots. Fall is the season when you can look amazing while still being warm and comfortable.
  3. There is a growing trend of pumpkin spice products. Any drink, food of all kinds, toothpaste and even toilet paper! Who needs pumpkin spice toilet paper? Seriously, why does everything have to be pumpkin spice? Oh wait, this column is supposed to be the best things about fall. Let me rephrase that: pumpkin spice is amazing!
  4. Holiday cheer! Well, kind of. Fall is the season signaling the arrival of the holidays. Halloween is the first one, followed by Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s. The coming of fall means all these holidays are right around the corner.
  5. While we are on the topic of holidays, I feel like Halloween needs its own section. I mean, everyone loves Halloween. Whether it’s seeing little kids laughing as they run up and down the street or going trick-or-treating yourself and getting candy. Maybe you find joy in stuffing yourself full of candy. Whatever it is, Halloween is definitely one of the best parts of fall.
  6. The hot drinks come out. Hot cider, hot chocolate and creative new flavors of coffee. In the chilly weather of fall, looking around to see most people’s hands wrapped around a steaming cup is not at all unusual.  The drinks provide warmth and comfort to everyone.
  7. The scenery in fall is amazing. All the trees show off colorful displays of red, orange and yellow. The leaves turn a boring picture into a memorable one with the sun shining through a brightly colored tree and the ground looking like a coat of red.
  8. Fall weather is perfect. There isn’t the dreadful heat of summer pounding on your back causing you to want to flop onto the coldest ground you can find and do nothing all day. Plus it isn’t winter yet with the finger-numbing cold that chills you to the very depths of your soul. It’s just the perfect weather for being outside.
  9. Sports season is here. Whether watching football games on the TV or  high school games, the fall feeling is complete. Not to mention the other sports that fall offers like cross country and hockey. Yes, I know there isn’t many fans of either, but I love them so I had to include them.
  10. Hunting season is also here. This is very obvious as you look around the school some Fridays and see that half the kids are gone for the weekend. Enjoying the outdoors is so much better than sitting in classes all day and looking longingly out the window at the mountains in the distance.
